The Olympic champion Giovanni De Gennaro has kicked off his canoeing training at the Desenzano lakeside park, where he utilized his personal K1. Accompanied by Dario Romano, president of the Canoa Club Brescia, De Gennaro praised the optimal conditions of the lake, with water temperatures around 10 degrees Celsius, highlighting the importance of having a flat-water space for winter training, unlike the more challenging rivers and lakes where he usually trains.
During his visit, De Gennaro expressed his intention to involve schools and summer camps to introduce young people to canoeing. He revealed that he is following a rigorous training program that includes morning canoeing sessions and afternoon gym workouts, with an eye on the World Championships in Australia in 2025 and the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Additionally, he met with the mayor of Desenzano, Guido Malinverno, to discuss the park’s availability for future training sessions, and he expressed pride in the achievements of Brescia’s athletes and the positive attention towards the local community.
