A gang of thieves was intercepted by the Carabinieri in Sirmione during a chase that took place on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14. The officers noticed two stolen vehicles with counterfeit license plates near the bingo hall in Lugana around 5:30 PM, prompting a pursuit to apprehend the criminals. While the first car managed to escape, the second was blocked in a parking lot. The occupants of the vehicle, a total of five, attempted to ram the Carabinieri’s car to free themselves, but then exited the vehicle and fled on foot through the surrounding fields.
Inside the abandoned vehicle, burglary tools and balaclavas were found, suggesting that the gang was prepared for a new heist in the area, where they typically targeted commercial establishments and isolated homes. Investigations are ongoing to identify the members of the gang and shed light on the numerous thefts that have recently occurred in the Benaco region, which includes the provinces of Verona, Brescia, and Mantova.
