Yesterday, Wednesday, October 30, a meeting took place between the mayors of the municipalities in Brescia opposed to the new wastewater treatment plant project for Lake Garda and the Prefect of Brescia, who is the Extraordinary Commissioner for the project. During the discussion, the mayors highlighted the critical issues raised in the feasibility studies presented by Acque Bresciane and submitted a report to the Court of Auditors to clarify who will bear the financial burden of the project, whose costs have doubled. They also reiterated their willingness to discuss a collection and treatment system that respects environmental protection.
The Prefect emphasized the importance of new European regulations that require energy self-sufficient treatment plants, suggesting a possible new location for the facility in a municipality other than Gavardo and Montichiari. The mayors requested that the choice of the receiving water body and the location be made through an objective Strategic Environmental Assessment, to ensure that the entire project is adequately evaluated from all environmental, technical, and economic perspectives.
