On Wednesday, July 3rd, the young attendees of the Summer Recreation Center of the Oratory “Beato Alberto” in Villa d’Ogna, in the province of Bergamo, had the opportunity to visit the 6th Wing of the Italian Air Force in Ghedi. They were welcomed at the airport by the Commander of the “Red Devils,” Colonel Luca Giuseppe Vitaliti.
During the visit, the children were introduced to the operational life of the military base and had the chance to observe a special exhibition area set up for the occasion. This experience allowed them to learn more about aircraft and their components, understand the principles of flight mechanics, and see a jet engine presented in an educational version. Particularly exciting was the opportunity to interact with the pilots’ equipment and get a hands-on experience with the ejection seat.
The initiative highlighted the close connection between the local community and the uniformed personnel who serve the country on a daily basis. This type of activity not only strengthens the collaboration between the 6th Wing and the youth and educational centers in the area, but also offers the children a unique learning experience that stimulates curiosity and inspiration for the future.
The 6th Wing “Alfredo Fusco” plays a fundamental role in Italian military operations. Its mission includes interdiction, reconnaissance, and support for ground forces, as well as air defense against hostile threats. With advanced technologies such as Tornado IDS/ECR and F-35A aircraft, the unit also ensures operational conversion and standardization activities for the crews assigned to these aircraft.
In addition to its military duties, the 6th Wing actively collaborates with civil authorities to maintain public order during emergencies or natural disasters. This synergy between the armed forces and civil institutions represents an added value for the safety and well-being of the local community.
