The day dedicated to cholesterol prevention was successfully held in the square of Desenzano del Garda, where approximately 200 people participated in quick tests to measure cholesterol levels. The results revealed that nearly half of the participants fell into a category of moderate to severe cardiovascular risk, taking into account factors such as diabetes, smoking, age, and gender. The staff from ASST Garda provided valuable advice on how to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events and proposed a personalized path for diagnosis and therapy.
The Medical Director of ASST Garda, Pietro Imbrogno, emphasized the importance of the “national strategic plan for heart health,” which recommends annual check-ups for adults over 65. Despite advancements in awareness, the understanding of risk factors remains low: 41% of the Italian population aged between 18 and 69 has at least three cardiovascular risk factors. Fabrizio Bonfante, Director of the local Hospital Medicine Department, suggested more frequent check-ups starting from a young age for those with a family history of heart disease or hypercholesterolemia.
