Representatives from the olive oil sector gathered in the Lombardy Region to discuss the climate change and its impact on olive cultivation around Lake Garda, particularly concerning the production of Olio Garda DOP. The meeting, held at the Consortium for the Protection of Garda DOP Extra Virgin Olive Oil, highlighted how rising temperatures, drought, and extreme weather events could jeopardize yields and the area’s agricultural potential. Regional Councilor M5S Paola Pollini emphasized the urgency of initiating studies to identify suitable protective practices for this essential crop.
The Agriculture Commission of the Region will therefore listen to the requests of industry experts next Wednesday, aiming to identify effective interventions to address these changes. Olive oil production in the area not only represents an agricultural excellence but also contributes to enhancing the landscape and the tourist appeal of the region, as olive groves are an integral part of the local culture.
