The Lonato Gallery is officially closed for one year starting from yesterday morning, when the closure of the San Zeno tunnel took effect at 11 AM, preventing morning traffic. Despite widespread concerns about potential congestion, the traffic situation on the first day of closure turned out to be more manageable than expected, with regular flows and no extraordinary jams. This total closure, necessary for significant work on a road used daily by around 100,000 people, may, however, lead to complications in the coming days.
Today marks a crucial moment: it will be the true “test of fire” to assess the effectiveness of the information provided by the Municipality and the Autostrade company in minimizing disruptions. For the next three months, the tunnel will remain closed 24 hours a day; subsequently, in the following nine months, it will be accessible only from 7 AM to 7 PM. The Municipality has established alternative routes to avoid congestion in the city center, particularly along Corso Garibaldi. Although the first day passed without significant issues, local authorities remain vigilant and ready to closely monitor the evolution of traffic in the weeks to come.
