The closure of the San Zeno tunnel along the SS11 bypass will have a significant impact on the alternative traffic routes in the municipality of Lonato del Garda. Starting from January 20, 2025, Mayor Roberto Tardani has convened the Neighborhood Representatives to discuss the necessary measures to manage traffic following the ordinance that prohibits the passage of trucks weighing over 3.5 tons in the historic center and surrounding streets. The roads affected include Via Cesare Battisti, Via IV Novembre, and other important local arteries.
To facilitate the flow of heavy vehicles towards alternative routes, the ban on transit in Via Campagna Sopra and Via Campagna Sotto will be temporarily suspended, although some restrictions will remain in place for residents and businesses. The Mayor emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of citizens and preventing Lonato from becoming merely a detour for vehicles heading to Brescia and Verona. The municipal administration will closely monitor the traffic situation to make any necessary adjustments to the traffic flow.
