The Teatro Grande in Brescia will host a commemorative concert for the 50th anniversary of the Piazza Loggia massacre, which will take place on May 9th at 8:00 pm. The event is organized by the Fondazione del Teatro Grande in collaboration with the Casa della Memoria.
The commissioned musical composition for the occasion has been entrusted to Mauro Montalbetti and will be performed by the Italian Youth Orchestra, conducted by maestro Tito Ceccherini. The score, titled “Stanze di lontananza” (Rooms of Distance), will be performed for the first time ever during the concert.
The program also includes the performance of two other musical works. It begins with the famous “Pavane pour une infante défunte” by Maurice Ravel, followed by Mauro Montalbetti’s new composition. Finally, Jean Sibelius’ Third Symphony in C major, Op. 52, will be performed.
The aim of the concert is to offer a reflection on the memory and significance of the tragedy that occurred fifty years ago in Brescia. The sound dramaturgy of the eight musical rooms aims to metaphorically represent the theme of loss and rediscovery through the distance of the body and matter.
The event is part of the celebrations for the Day of Remembrance dedicated to the victims of terrorism. It is an opportunity to remember the people who lost their lives in the Piazza Loggia massacre and to reflect on the importance of preserving historical memory.
The Teatro Grande in Brescia confirms itself as a prestigious venue for significant cultural events, offering the public the opportunity to participate in high-level artistic concerts. The initiative also represents a moment of encounter between art and memory, contributing to the dissemination of culture and the enhancement of the city’s artistic heritage.
