Recent reports of dead swans have raised concerns between Desenzano and Sirmione, where it is suspected that the cause may be food poisoning due to the harmful practice of throwing food to attract waterfowl. Despite awareness campaigns and informational signs, many people continue to feed these animals inappropriate foods such as bread and chips. In recent days, three dead swans have been found, along with two others in serious condition; the latter were transported to the Cras in Valpredina, where they received treatment and were subsequently released.
The municipality of Desenzano has recently reported a large amount of abandoned bread on the beaches, heightening concerns about the health of the birds. Authorities warn that those caught feeding these animals may face fines of up to 150 euros, while in other areas, fines can reach up to 500 euros. The WWF emphasizes that swans and ducks, being primarily herbivores, suffer from the improper diet imposed by humans, which poses a serious risk to their health and that of their chicks.
