The military seaplane base in Desenzano del Garda is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the speed record set by Marshal Francesco Agello in 1934 on the MC-72 hydroplane. The 6th Wing of the Italian Air Force, in collaboration with the Municipality of Desenzano and various local associations, has organized a series of commemorative events and special openings to the public. Planned initiatives include historical exhibitions, conferences, and reenactments with participants in period uniforms. The highlight of the event will be the ceremony on October 23, the exact anniversary date, which will include a flyover by aircraft from the 6th Wing.
Inside the historical hangars of the seaplane base, an exhibition dedicated to the Schneider Cup and the High-Speed Department has been set up, showcasing original memorabilia, uniforms, and aviation artifacts. A major highlight of the exhibition is a life-size reconstruction of the Macchi-Castoldi MC-72. The celebrations also include a vintage car show on August 3rd and 4th, as well as a conference on the history of the first Aerial Circuit in 1909 on August 6th. The events will culminate on October 23rd with a solemn military ceremony to honor Agello’s historic achievement.
