After a five-year hiatus, the historical reenactment of the Battle of San Martino and Solferino will return to Desenzano on June 22nd and 23rd, 2024. The event will take place in the Laghetto – Oriana Fallaci Park, with over a hundred participants portraying the bloody battle of the Italian Risorgimento that took place 165 years ago. The choice of the new location was necessary as the San Martino and Solferino Society did not consent to the use of the historic tower as in the past.
The local administration has provided resources and spaces to ensure the success of the event, which will include military exercises, guided tours of the historic fields, and a simulation of the clash using three cannons. The highlight of the event will be on Sunday morning with the staging of the main battle. Around 120 reenactors from all over Italy and France will participate in the initiative, offering the audience an immersive and educational experience on the Second War of Independence.
