The proposal to build a new hospital in Desenzano del Garda has sparked controversy and concerns among citizens and some local politicians. Andrea Spiller, councilor for the 5 Star Movement and L’altra Desenzano, strongly expressed his disagreement with the project during a recent meeting.
Secret Meeting and Lack of Transparency
According to Spiller, the meeting held between the Desenzano majority councilors, the Mayor, local councilors, Regional Assessor Guido Bertolaso, and the heads of ASST del Garda highlighted the intention to proceed with the construction of the new healthcare facility. This project involves building the hospital at the foot of Montecroce, on an area currently occupied by a football field and a significant portion of green space.
Spiller strongly criticized the lack of transparency in the decision-making process, stating that “transparency and involvement have once again been swept under the rug!”
Interrogation of Assessor Bertolaso
Following the recent revelations, Regional Councilors Paola Pollini (5 Star Movement) and Onorio Rosati (AVS) have submitted an interrogation to Regional Assessor Bertolaso. The main request is to review the feasibility study supporting the current project. In particular, they are asking for:
– A thorough review of alternative design options, including the use of the current hospital site to avoid further land consumption.
– A detailed analysis of possible future uses for the existing structure if it were to be decommissioned.
– Assurance that the number of beds will not be reduced compared to the current availability in case the new facility is built.
Criticism of the Proposed Solution
Spiller did not hesitate to describe the currently proposed solution by the center-right regional government as “unacceptable.” He emphasized the importance of a broader evaluation of available alternatives and called for a clear position on the future of the current hospital structure to avoid speculative risks.
