In anticipation of the impending rains, the levels of Lake Garda have reached a critical value, exceeding 130 cm above the hydrographic zero at Peschiera. To address this situation, the Interregional Agency for the Po River (AIPo) has decided to double the discharges into the Mincio, increasing the outflow at the Salionze overflow structure from 14 to 30 cubic meters per second. This maneuver has become necessary to prevent the lake from exceeding the alert threshold, ensuring more effective management of water resources.
Since last November, the discharges had been kept to a minimum to allow for significant modernization and seismic upgrading works on the dam, with an investment of over 20 million euros across seven active construction sites along the banks of the Mincio, from the dam to the mouth of Governolo. Today’s decision reflects the urgency of the situation and the commitment of local authorities to sustainable water management.
