The Negri Foundation and the Pasquale Battista Foundation, with the support of the Augusta Ratio Group, present the monographic exhibition “Echoes” dedicated to the Italian photographer Vasco Ascolini. Curated by Luca Carnicelli, the exhibition will be held at the Negri Foundation Space in Brescia from April 13th to June 22nd, 2024.
The aim of this exhibition is to pay tribute to Vasco Ascolini, one of the most important photographers of the Italian second half of the 20th century. Despite his career mainly developing abroad, with important international collaborations and prestigious awards such as the Knight of the Arts and Letters of the French Republic in 2000, Ascolini also had significant events in Italy, such as the exhibitions in Aosta and Ferrara curated by Ernst Gombrich and Aaron Scharf in 1989.
The “Echoes” exhibition offers a comprehensive view of the work of this great artist, focusing on the artifice of theater, sculpture, and architectural spaces. Through his vintage photographs on silver gelatin barite paper, Ascolini conveys a rare humanity and pathos that is seldom found in photography.
Visitors are invited to embark on a journey through time and space, exploring themes of visual contrast, emotional metamorphosis, evanescence, memory, and identity. The exhibition highlights Ascolini’s unique ability to capture the transience of human existence and the fleeting beauty of its forms.
The exhibition is accompanied by a prestigious catalog published by the Negri Foundation with contributions from Luca Carnicelli, Imen Jane, and Massimo Mussini.
The collaboration between the Pasquale Battista and Negri Foundations, together with the support of the Augusta Ratio Group, testifies to their commitment to promoting art and culture. “Echoes” is a must-see event for photography, art, and history enthusiasts.
