The Garda Community recently organized a conference on emerging Chinese tourism, in collaboration with the Observatory for Tourism at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. This event is significant as the Chinese market offers enormous potential, with a middle class that is eight times larger than the Italian population and an increasing spending capacity. The “Garda Unico” project, funded with 900,000 euros, aims to support the competitiveness of the Lake Garda destination, but it raises questions about how to attract Chinese tourists in a rapidly evolving global context.
However, it has been noted that the environmental and cultural capital of the lake is facing significant pressures due to real estate speculation and pollution. The Alto Garda Park could play a crucial role in driving initiatives to protect natural resources and promote responsible tourism development. The responsibility for safeguarding this heritage now lies with local institutions and industry associations, so as not to miss the opportunity to enhance the region’s unique biodiversity.
