In Lonato del Garda, an environmental demonstration will take place on Saturday, February 8, at 3 PM in Piazza Martiri della Libertà, opposing the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Esenta. Local committees, including the Tavolo Ambiente Garda and the Presidio 9 Agosto, invite citizens to come together to express their dissent against a project that plans to discharge wastewater into the Chiese River. The organizers argue that Peschiera is the natural location for the treatment of wastewater from the Garda area.
During the event, the reasons for opposing the Lonato treatment plant will be presented, along with a proposal to reactivate the sublacual system of the Peschiera treatment plant as a more sustainable solution. It is emphasized that even with the relocation of the facility, discharges will continue to negatively impact the local environment, raising concerns for the health of the Chiese River and the surrounding ecosystem.
