The Prefect of Brescia, Andrea Polichetti, reiterated that the wastewater treatment plant in Esenta is the only solution for the future sewage treatment facility for the Brescia side of Lake Garda. During a recent meeting, the extraordinary commissioner clarified the reasons behind the decision made at the Ministry of the Environment, emphasizing that the choice to locate the new treatment plant in Esenta, rather than in Gavardo or Montichiari, was made to ensure better governance and oversight of the entire project. Nevertheless, the local community has expressed strong opposition, proposing alternatives such as the expansion of the Peschiera plant.
Polichetti explained that the Peschiera option was dismissed due to restrictions related to the surrounding military area and the technical difficulties in constructing the final collector. He also reassured that the Chiese River has the capacity to manage discharges without compromising the environment and highlighted the economic advantages of choosing Esenta, with significant savings on construction and operational costs. Finally, the Prefect assured that the residents of the hamlet would not be directly affected by the inconveniences related to the construction of the treatment plant, thanks to the use of the best available technologies.
