The weather alert for Riva del Garda and the entire province of Trento, initially scheduled to end today, has been extended until midnight on Thursday, May 23rd. The Trentino Civil Protection has extended the warning for hydrogeological risk, maintaining the yellow level of ordinary alert.
In the afternoon of Wednesday, May 22nd, unstable weather is expected with the possibility of showers and local thunderstorms. These phenomena could lead to significant rainfall accumulations in short periods, with values that can exceed 20 millimeters in restricted areas. However, the accumulations will vary greatly, and only in some areas will quantities higher than 5-10 millimeters be recorded.
Weather Forecast for Thursday
The weather conditions will further worsen on Thursday, May 23rd. The atmospheric flows at high altitude will tend to intensify from the southwest. This will result in more widespread rainfall during the central hours of the day and in the afternoon, with possible thunderstorms. By the evening, an average of 5 to 25 millimeters of precipitation is expected, with locally higher peaks.
Expected Criticalities
The weather forecasts indicate potential criticalities related to erosions and landslides in the local hydrographic network. Surface runoff is expected, which could transport material causing floods and overflows. In addition, there is a risk of landslides and rapid flows that could compromise road and rail transport as well as communication and service distribution networks.
Population Recommendations
The population is urged to pay close attention to the conditions of the places to be traveled, both on foot and by vehicle. It is advisable to avoid areas that present anomalous or potentially dangerous conditions, such as watercourses, cycle paths near rivers, depressed areas such as underpasses and ramps, or slopes prone to landslides.
In case of emergency, it is essential to promptly contact the European emergency number 112. For those residing in the five municipalities of Primiero, the emergency toll-free number 800 112000 is also available.
The extension of the alert reflects the need to remain vigilant in light of the adverse weather conditions expected in the coming hours in the Lake Garda area.
