Up and down the steps of the Pirellone for eight consecutive hours for charity. This is the challenge of Fabrizio Amicabile, born in 1960, from Mantua, an ultra runner for solidarity. The event is scheduled for Friday, June 21st at 9 am with the Vertical Run for Charity in the Lombardy Regional Building. Each step will be virtually sold on the GoFundMe platform and the proceeds will be donated to three organizations in Brescia: the Bambino Emopatico Association of Brescia ODV, AISLA Brescia, and the “Saveriocrea Onlus” Association’s “Raricomefranci” project.
Donations can be made via bank transfer to the ASI SSDaRL sports company account, IBAN: IT08V0503454780000000004492, but especially through the active online fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe platform at https://gofund.me/2789c8e6.
Present at today’s press conference in Lombardy Region were the President of the Regional Council, Federico Romani, the Regional Councilor Claudia Carzeri, the President of Lions Club Bramante Milano, the President of Lions Club Colli Morenici Massimiliano Bocchio, the Press Office of District 108IB4, and Fabrizio Amicabile, the ultra runner.
Statements:
Fabrizio Amicabile: “For me, it means, at least I hope, surpassing 23-24 thousand steps. If instead of 24 thousand there are 23 thousand, we will be satisfied, the important thing is that all the steps I manage to do are sold for the charitable purpose, which is what I care about the most.”
Federico Romani, President of the Lombardy Regional Council: “This charity initiative supports associations that help children with special needs. Sport always works as a vehicle, and the combination of institutions and sports associations is the fundamental lever to promote initiatives that uphold values such as willpower, courage, and determination.”
Claudia Carzeri, Regional Councilor of Lombardy: “Great effort, great work, all for a good cause, so we can only be happy and satisfied with the great associative network in Lombardy and especially with the Lions of our region, in my province of Brescia, who have given great impetus to this event.”
The official mental coach of the event will be Beatrice Raso from Aosta, a PNL Trainer, Sport & Life Coach with elite athletes, Hatha Yoga teacher, and Mindfulness operator. Beatrice Raso is participating with Fabrizio Amicabile in the realization of this charitable feat, offering her support to ensure that Amicabile can face the challenge in the best possible way.
Fabrizio Amicabile, originally from Mantua, had a difficult childhood due to a fall that caused epilepsy, resulting in over 400 seizures a day. Running became a way for him to overcome these difficulties and integrate into society. Over time, Amicabile has participated in numerous races and marathons, turning his passion for running into a vehicle for solidarity.
Among his most notable achievements are the run from Asiago to Verona in 1992 to purchase a wheelchair for a disabled person, and the relay from Rome to Verona in 1998 for heart transplant recipients. In 2014, he ran from Peschiera to Rome to raise awareness about ALS, and in 2019, he ran from Verona to Paris to raise funds for ALS research. The summer of 2023 saw him run from Agrigento to Venice in a 1800 km relay race over 35 stages.
World ALS Day, June 21, 2024, will be the perfect occasion for the Vertical Run for Charity, in which Fabrizio Amicabile will run along the stairs of the “Pirellone” in Milan to raise funds through the virtual sale of steps on the GoFundMe platform.
