The city of Salò has recently bid farewell to Cesare Bonizzi, known as “Fratello Metallo,” who passed away at the age of 78. The friar, who retired in 2009 to the Capuchin convent in Barbarano, was an icon of heavy metal music, using his passion to spread faith from 1990 until the 2000s. Before joining the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, Bonizzi worked as a laborer and a sales representative, but his true calling always remained connected to music, with a remarkable 16 self-produced albums and participation in prestigious events such as the Gods of Metal.
Fr. Bonizzi’s funeral will take place today, Thursday, November 21, at 3 PM at the conventual church of the Capuchin friars in Bergamo. The figure of “Fratello Metallo” will remain etched in the collective memory for his unique approach to spirituality and music.
