An ambitious project is taking shape in the Principality of Monaco, set to change the face of Monte Carlo by 2025. “Mareterra,” as it is called, involves the creation of a new peninsula that will extend directly onto the water, integrating nature and technology in perfect harmony. A key element of this futuristic endeavor is the steel produced by Feralpi di Lonato.
The “Mareterra” initiative, as the name suggests, aims to merge two fundamental natural elements: sea and land. The result will be a sustainable residential neighborhood covering six hectares, including cultural and recreational spaces as well as extensive Mediterranean gardens.
The new neighborhood will be built in the Anse du Portier area through a marine extension created with 18 prefabricated floating caissons. These caissons, completed in 2019, form a 500-meter-long belt positioned on an underwater hill created with four hundred thousand cubic meters of sand from northern Sicily. Each caisson weighs approximately 24,000 tons.
At the heart of these imposing caissons are cages assembled for foundation piles, specially made by Presider using over 7,000 tons of steel supplied by Feralpi. This Gardesano steel plays a crucial role in the success of the project.
“Mareterra” has been described as a tribute to the Mediterranean and bears the prestigious signature of architect Sam L’Anse du Portier. In addition, renowned names such as star architects Renzo Piano and Denis Valode, and landscape designer Michel Desvigne have contributed to the project.
