The national campaign by Legambiente, titled “The Sites of Ecological Transition,” made a stop in Lonato del Garda, Lombardy, to discuss the recycling of steel, the most recycled material in Europe. During the event, the virtuous model of Feralpi Siderurgica was highlighted, a company that produces steel from scrap iron and stands out for its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. The plant employs innovative electrification technologies and material recovery processes, thereby contributing to reducing the environmental impact of the steel industry.
The meeting featured representatives from Legambiente and RICREA, a consortium dedicated to the recycling of steel packaging. Speakers emphasized the importance of decarbonization in the sector and how the Feralpi model can serve as an example for other companies. In 2023, Italy recycled over 428,000 tons of steel packaging, demonstrating a significant commitment to sustainable resource management.
