On New Year’s Eve, a wildfire broke out on Monte Brione, located in Riva del Garda, necessitating a massive response from the Fire Brigade. The flames spread over an area of approximately 100 meters and are believed to have been caused by the use of fireworks in a region characterized by dry terrain and influenced by wind. Firefighters from the Riva and Arco stations worked for several hours to extinguish the fire, which was finally brought under control in the early hours of the morning with the assistance of a helicopter, using a total of 65,000 liters of water.
To ensure safety during the firefighting operations and to prevent potential rockfalls, a temporary closure of State Road 240 was necessary. After conducting the necessary checks together with the technicians from the Provincial Road Management Service and the Local Police, the road was reopened to traffic this morning. Investigations are currently underway to identify those responsible for the incident.
