Riva del Garda recently hosted an extraordinary event in the world of freediving, marking a significant milestone with the participation of 130 athletes and the achievement of five CMAS (Confédération mondiale des activités subaquatiques) world records. The Italian Open Outdoor Freediving Championships took place on September 7th and 8th at the San Nicolò harbor, organized by the Riva del Garda Diving Group in collaboration with FIPSAS (Italian Federation of Sport Fishing, Underwater Activities, and Fin Swimming).
Results of the Competitions
The first day of the competition featured the constant weight with fins event, where Davide Carrera from Sub Sinnai and Simona Auteri from Centro Sub Riviera dei Fiori achieved outstanding results. Carrera reached a depth of 92 meters, while Auteri stopped at 76 meters, both setting new CMAS world records. In the men’s category, Pietro Antolini from Centro Subacqueo Villafranca and Giacomo Sergi from Asd Mediterranea secured second place, both reaching a depth of 77 meters. On the women’s podium, Paola Zanaga from Y-40 took second place with 55 meters, followed by Gabriela Felicioni from Apnea Academy Competition at 54 meters.
In the Promotion category, the Italian titles were won by Ivan Teodoro from Nps and Susanna Grassi from Centro Sub Riviera dei Fiori, both reaching 40 meters. Completing the men’s podium were Giovanni Monopoli from Asd Tre Re and David Larcher from Pro Desenzano. In the women’s sector, Giulia Fasani from 1° Club Lacustre Sommozzatori secured second place, while Erika Berardi from Sottopressione came in third.
Another noteworthy moment was the awarding of the junior title to Pietro De Ehrenstein Rouvroy from Club Subacqueo Rane Nere, who reached a depth of 38 meters.
Paralympic Records
During the same competition, Fabrizio Pagani from Umbriasub and Ilenia Colanero from Apnea Team Abruzzo set paralympic world records in constant weight with fins. Gianluca Pietro Konrad Visconti from Asd Verona Dives Different achieved a new Italian paralympic record.
Second Day: Monofin
Sunday was dedicated to the constant weight with monofin event, where Davide Carrera shone once again, reaching 102 meters and setting a new CMAS world record. Martino Mostacci from Apnea Academy Competition finished second with 90 meters, followed by Francesco Pirrone from Pavi Apnea at 83 meters. In the women’s category, Simona Auteri claimed victory with a depth of 81 meters, establishing herself as champion for two consecutive days.
In the Promotion category, Alessandro Scarpa from Sottopressione and Susanna Grassi excelled at 40 meters, followed respectively by Giovanni Monopoli from Asd Tre Re in second place and Leo Sanna from Bolzano Sub in third.
Recognitions to Clubs
Thanks to the results achieved by their athletes in various disciplines, the title of Best Freediving Club in Italy went to Centro Sub Riviera dei Fiori. The organizing club of the event was led by Graziano Marchi alongside a qualified team composed of chief judge Ezio Barbero and other experienced judges.
The significance of the event did not go unnoticed: Michele Geraci from the Underwater Activities and Fin Swimming Committee and other local authorities attended the event. President Graziano Marchi emphasized the importance of the results achieved this year, stating, “This has truly been the edition of records.” Lorenzo Pozzer, the sports councilor for the municipal administration, also praised the organizational efforts, highlighting how such events contribute to making Riva del Garda a key location for top-tier sports competitions on the national stage.
