On Thursday, May 9th, the “Il piacere del cinema” festival will present the documentary “Food for Profit” in Riva del Garda. Directed by Pablo D’Ambrosi and Giulia Innocenzi, the film has a runtime of 90 minutes and addresses a highly relevant topic: the connections between the meat industry, lobbying, and political power.
The documentary sheds light on the transfer of public funds to intensive farming, which not only leads to severe animal abuse but also contributes to environmental pollution and poses potential risks to public health. Through compelling storytelling and meticulous investigative research, the directors interview farmers, companies, and prominent political figures to expose the reality of a system that hides abuses behind the apparent excellence of European dairy and meat products.
Additionally, the documentary features an undercover infiltrator who poses as an agri-food lobbyist to gather crucial information about the political dynamics at play. Through secret recordings, shocking aspects of the relationships between the meat industry and political power are revealed.
The screening of the documentary will take place at the cinema hall of the Comunità di valle in via Rosmini 5 in Riva del Garda, starting at 9 pm. Tickets cost 7 euros for adults and 5 euros for reduced admission (over 65, children under 14, and students up to 25 years old). The ticket office will open half an hour before the screening.
The film festival is organized by the Comunità di valle Alto Garda e Ledro and the municipalities of Arco, Drena, Ledro, Nago-Torbole, Riva del Garda, and Tenno. The artistic direction is curated by the Coordinamento teatrale trentino.
