The Garda Community is celebrating its 70th anniversary, a significant milestone for an organization that has played a crucial role in the protection of Lake Garda’s waters and the promotion of a unified governance. Founded on April 3, 1955, at the Casino of Gardone Riviera, the institution emerged from the collaboration among the provinces of Brescia, Mantova, Trento, and Verona, aiming to tackle the common challenges of an administratively fragmented area. Pierlucio Ceresa, the Secretary General since 2001, emphasized how the Community serves as a meeting point for various local entities and has been ahead of its time on critical issues such as mobility and water safety.
Over the past seventy years, the Community has initiated significant projects, including the wastewater treatment system launched in 1972 and the establishment of the Coast Guard in 1999 to ensure safety on the water. Today, under the presidency of Senator Mariastella Gelmini, the organization continues to work on strategic fronts related to ecological protection, mobility, and cultural promotion. The Garda Community thus reaffirms its role as a fundamental entity in overcoming administrative barriers and collaboratively addressing the challenges faced by this important lake region.
