Garda Cycle Path, the loop is broken: Brescians and Trentino cyclists ride divided. The recent decision by the Lombardy Region not to proceed with the third section of the cycle path from Gardone Riviera to Limone has sparked mixed reactions among local authorities and cycling tourism enthusiasts. This choice has interrupted the possibility of a continuous cycling route around the lake due to geological difficulties and the risk of landslides along the Lombard cliffs. Approximately 30 kilometers will need to be covered by hybrid boats that will transport cyclists and their bikes, while work on the Trentino side will continue as planned, creating scenic stretches.
Brescian experts express concerns regarding the final pedestrian section, suggesting that it would have been more prudent to stop at Salò rather than tackle a problematic route. The Gardone Europa Association and other local consortia warn that the path from Salò to Fasano could disrupt the daily lives of residents and compromise the safety of tourists, proposing to limit the route to Salò. Economically, the project to complete the cycling and walking path on the Brescia side will require just over 8 million euros, with detailed costs for the various sections presented by the relevant authorities.
