The Garda DOP oil, a high-quality extra virgin olive oil, has ranked among the top ten oils with geographical indication in Italy according to the XXII ISMEA-Qualivita Report 2024, presented in Rome on December 2nd. This recognition highlights the commitment of local olive growers and millers who work passionately to ensure an authentic product that is appreciated by consumers. Attorney Simone Padovani, President of the Protection Consortium, emphasized how Garda DOP oil is gaining popularity, recording a 45% increase in production value in 2023 and positioning itself seventh among Italian PGI oils.
With only 783 hectares of olive groves registered under the designation, spread across three regions and four provinces, Garda DOP oil stands out for its centuries-old tradition and its connection to a unique territory. The ISMEA-Qualivita Report also highlights the growth potential of the Italian olive oil market on an international level, despite current production challenges. Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, confirmed the importance of Geographical Indications in the Italian olive oil sector, both for product quality and for the enhancement of native cultivars.
