From June 29th to July 25th, 2024, the Garda Lake Music Festival will return to liven up the shores of Lake Garda with its twelfth edition. The towns of Desenzano del Garda, Sirmione, and Padenghe will host a rich program that includes performances by international artists as well as concerts by students from the masterclasses. Organized by the Garda Lake Music ETS Association and artistically directed by founder Luca Ranieri, the festival continues to combine great classical music with the beauty of the locations.
A Spectacular Beginning
The inaugural concert will take place on Wednesday, July 3rd, at the Castle of Desenzano del Garda. The featured ensemble will be the Philharmonische Camerata Berlin, composed of musicians from the renowned Berliner Philharmoniker, with Gabor Tarkövy on trumpet. The repertoire for the evening will include works by Grieg, Respighi, Vivaldi, Telemann, Dvořák, and Händel.
Concerts En Plein Air
The Spiaggia delle Muse in Sirmione will be the picturesque setting for numerous concerts. On Thursday, July 4th, violinist Giuseppe Gibboni and guitarist Carlotta Dalia will perform “Serenata notturna,” featuring music by Paganini, Ernst, Tartini, Tarrega, Albeniz, and Piazzolla. Sunday, July 7th, will be dedicated to Venetian Baroque with “Il barocco in villa” at Villa Romana in Desenzano del Garda.
Homage to Maria Callas
On Monday, July 8th, a special concert paying tribute to Maria Callas will take place on the Spiaggia delle Muse. Artists Nadia Engheben (soprano) and Romina Tomasoni (contralto), accompanied on piano by Giorgio Martano, will perform famous opera arias by composers such as Offenbach, Bellini, and Verdi.
Musical Journeys
On Tuesday, July 9th, Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, along with the Quintetto d’archi dell’Accademia di Santa Sofia, will present a “Musical Journey from Rome to Buenos Aires.” The bandoneonist will transport the audience through melodies from Italian films to the Argentine tangos of Piazzolla. This concert will be repeated on Wednesday, July 10th, at Villa Romana in Desenzano.
Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali
On Sunday, July 21st, the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali from Milan, under the direction of Nicolò Jacopo Suppa, will perform on the Spiaggia delle Muse with “Sinfonie riflesse,” interpreting works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Beethoven. The collaboration will culminate on Thursday, July 25th, in the final concert at the Castle of Desenzano del Garda under the direction of emerging conductor Martynas Sakionis.
Prestigious Masterclasses
In addition to the main concerts, the festival offers a wide range of educational opportunities through its 14 masterclasses, taught by renowned masters such as Pavel Berman (violin), Federico Colli (piano), and Enrico Dindo (cello). Each masterclass will conclude with a concert by the students in various locations between Sirmione and Desenzano del Garda.
Preparatory Events
Before the official start of the concerts, there will be a “Chat about the Festival” on Sunday, June 30th, at 6:00 PM at the Park Hotel in Desenzano. Luca Ranieri will engage in a dialogue with Pavel Berman and journalists Filippo Michelangeli and Oreste Bossini, discussing anecdotes and previews of the current edition.
