The Lombardy Region has proposed a single solution for the Garda wastewater treatment plant, suggesting the construction of just one facility in the Brescia area instead of two as previously planned. During a recent hearing in the Environment Commission, regional councilor Giorgio Bontempi emphasized the need to update the 2017 agreement between Lombardy and Veneto and to consider local needs. The bipartisan motion, presented by Paola Pollini from the M5S, argues that it is essential to explore alternatives to the current project to ensure sustainable management of wastewater treatment.
Given the complexity of the issue, hearings with experts and institutions have been scheduled to gather opinions and formulate shared proposals. However, Pollini expressed concern about the risk that the project could move into the execution phase without adequately examining all available options. A group of citizens representing the Presidio 9 Agosto has also requested to be heard in order to contribute to the technical debate on the management of the Garda wastewater treatment system.
