In anticipation of the Castiglione-Desenzano stage of the Giro d’Italia, scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Municipality of Desenzano del Garda has released essential information for residents and visitors. The day will be characterized by significant changes to traffic and the organization of daily activities.
A free shuttle bus service will be available, operating continuously from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. The buses will depart from the parking area in Perla and travel along Viale Marconi to the roundabout at Viale Cavour – Via Sant’Angela Merici, where a temporary stop will be set up for the day.
Regarding traffic and highways, the Lonato/Brescia and Peschiera del Garda ring roads will remain open, while the San Martino della Battaglia exit will be closed due to the Giro d’Italia crossing Via dei Colli Storici. The Sirmione highway toll booth will be closed for both entry and exit, while the Desenzano del Garda toll booth will remain open.
For urban transportation, only Line 3 (red) will be in service on May 18, 2024. The route will start from the train station and return to the same station, with specific stops strategically located throughout the city.
All educational activities, including public and private schools of all levels, as well as nurseries, will be suspended on May 18, 2024, as mandated by Municipal Order No. 14 of April 9, 2024.
Despite the celebration of an important event like the Giro d’Italia, administrative activities in Desenzano del Garda will proceed as usual. The finish line of the stage is expected to be in Viale Anelli – Lungolago Cesare Battisti, ensuring that daily functions are not interrupted.
An hospitality area will be set up in the Maratona parking lots, reserved for RCS organizers. This space will provide services and comfort to the guests involved in the event’s organization.
The Golden Beach will host the Open Village – Giroland, a village open to everyone, adults and children, to immerse themselves in the history and symbols of the Corsa Rosa. The area will be animated by sponsors, a large screen for live event coverage, and musical entertainment.
Although the Lungolago will be fenced off on both sides, access to the Navigarda boat dock will be guaranteed with dedicated personnel, ensuring safe passage for everyone.
Loading and unloading of goods in the historic center will be allowed only on May 17, from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, as stated in Order No. 72/2024.
Several medical stations will be activated along the route to provide immediate assistance if needed. Fixed stations will be available at strategic points such as Via Anelli, Via Lario, and Rivoltella, in addition to mobile support with the Croce Bianca motorcycle rescue team and the CRI OPSA hydroambulance.
