During the evenings of the three central weekends in August 2024, the enchanting garden of the hermitage of the Church of San Pietro in Mavino in Sirmione will transform into an open-air theater for a series of performances inspired by Dante. Professor Pietro Savoldi will serve as the narrator, bringing to life some of the most famous cantos from the Divine Comedy.
The reading program includes Canto I, II, III, V, and VI of the Inferno, which will be recited on the evenings of August 10, 17, and 24. Following this, the event will continue with Canto XXVI and XXXIII of the Inferno, Canto VI of the Purgatorio, and Canto XVII and XXXIII of the Paradiso.
A Cathartic Experience in the Historic Heart of Sirmione
This initiative is organized in collaboration with the Parish of Santa Maria della Neve and features a special participation by Sister Esperanza Molina. This event represents a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the Dantean atmosphere in one of the most ancient and fascinating locations not only in Sirmione but across the entire Lake Garda.
Three years ago, Professor Savoldi captivated the audience with his recitations during the evenings titled “The Fridays of Dante,” held in the same church to commemorate the seven-hundredth anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet. Once again, Savoldi will present himself as the ideal spokesperson for Dante Alighieri, envisioning a recitation directed at the Florentine citizens of that time.
Practical Details of the Event
The performances will take place at 9:00 PM in the small garden adjacent to the Church of San Pietro in Mavino. This intimate setting will provide the perfect backdrop for an engaging and emotional experience, allowing the audience to rediscover the evocative power of Dante’s verses under the summer stars.
In conclusion, “Goodnight with Dante” promises to be an unmissable event for lovers of Italian literature and for anyone wishing to experience a unique cultural moment in the historic heart of Lake Garda.
