The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, met with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team at the Sala degli Specchi in the Quirinale Palace, marking a historic event for Italian sailing that celebrates the successes achieved in 2024, including victories by the youth and women’s teams at the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup and the Puig Women’s America’s Cup in Barcelona. The meeting was also attended by the Minister for Sport, Andrea Abodi, the President of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, and the President of the Italian Sailing Federation, Francesco Ettorre. Max Sirena, skipper and Team Director of Luna Rossa, emphasized the team’s commitment to the goal of winning the America’s Cup, proudly representing Italy on the global stage.
During the ceremony, Lorenzo Bertelli highlighted the importance of preserving the oceans, while Ettorre recalled the exceptional achievements of Italian sailing in 2024. Caterina Banti voiced the athletes’ perspective, emphasizing how sport can unite and help transcend personal limits.
