The presence of the silurus fish in Lake Garda has become a worrying daily reality. Recently, a fishing expedition involving 45 divers between Sirmione and Peschiera managed to catch about twenty specimens of this giant fish.
Incredible sizes
The size of the fish caught was truly impressive. Just a few years ago, spotting fish this big in Lake Garda would have been unthinkable. However, in recent times, these giant specimens have become increasingly common.
In July of last year, a decomposing specimen measuring just over two meters was spotted in the coastal area of Lonato. During yesterday morning’s fishing expedition, one of the fishermen managed to catch a specimen measuring almost two and a half meters.
Collective fishing expedition
The fishing expedition was organized by the Garda Community and involved the participation of 45 divers. During the operation, several specimens of silurus fish of various sizes were caught, totaling about 260 kilograms in weight.
The vice president of the Garda Community, Filippo Gavazzoni, confirmed that one of the caught fish measured a whopping two meters and forty centimeters. This was only the first collective effort organized to address the problem of silurus fish in Lake Garda.
