During a screening initiative held on Tuesday, September 24 in the square at Desenzano, ASST Garda revealed that approximately 50% of the 200 individuals tested were found to be at risk of hypercholesterolemia, classified within a moderate to severe cardiovascular risk category. The screening, conducted through a simple finger-prick test, also took into account factors such as diabetes, smoking, gender, and age to provide targeted guidance and the development of personalized pathways for diagnosis and treatment.
Pietro Imbrogno, the Health Director of ASST Garda, emphasized the importance of annual testing for adults to prevent serious events such as strokes and heart attacks. Fabrizio Bonfante, Director of the Medicine Department at the Desenzano del Garda Hospital, highlighted the need for regular check-ups starting from a young age for those with risk factors. The main goal of the campaign is to raise awareness among citizens about the risks associated with hypercholesterolemia and to promote healthy lifestyles from an early age in schools.
