An extraordinary event took place in Peschiera del Garda, where 18 people with various disabilities experienced the magic of scuba diving thanks to the GAS Diving School. This initiative, called “Diving for All,” was organized with the aim of offering a unique and engaging experience to blind participants, those with autism spectrum disorders, and Down syndrome.
During the day on Sunday, the municipal swimming pools in Peschiera del Garda became the stage for this underwater adventure. The event was made possible through the collaboration between instructors from the GAS Diving School and the DiverseAbility educational program. Upon arrival, the participants were warmly welcomed by the staff who explained how the diving experience would unfold, helping them become familiar with the environment and equipment.
Preparation and initial tests
After a brief theoretical introduction, the participants donned the necessary diving gear. For many of them, simply wearing the equipment was a thrilling experience; one of the participants likened it to feeling like Iron Man. The sensation of breathing underwater instilled a sense of power and limitless possibilities in the young aspiring divers.
The initial apprehension towards such a new experience was quickly replaced by feelings of joy and happiness. The participants’ eyes sparkled as they explored the underwater world safely under the expert guidance of the instructors.
Sharing and enthusiasm
At the end of the tests, the participants shared their experiences with friends and staff members. The atmosphere was festive; laughter and enthusiastic stories filled the air, creating an inclusive atmosphere that broke down all barriers. The day concluded with the presentation of participation certificates to the new aspiring divers and a refreshment organized by the GAS Diving School.
This initiative not only provided the participants with a unique opportunity but also demonstrated how sports can be a powerful tool for social inclusion.
