During the last City Council meeting in Desenzano del Garda, Councilor Andrea Spiller raised concerns about the increase in parking fees introduced a year and a half ago. According to Spiller, this decision has not yielded the expected results in terms of revenue, as only 1.2 million euros were collected instead of the projected 2.3 million euros.
Furthermore, the financial report revealed a surplus of over 4 million euros in the city’s budget. This amount could have been used to avoid the intervention on parking fees and to implement other more necessary measures.
Spiller also emphasized that the current economic conditions have changed since the decision to increase the fees was made. The cost of energy has decreased and inflation is slowing down. Therefore, according to the councilor, there would no longer be a valid justification for maintaining these high fees.
In light of these data, Spiller asked the municipal administration to review the choices made a year and a half ago and eliminate unnecessary interventions that have caused inconvenience to citizens. For example, they could consider returning to free parking at Villa Brunati for residents or managing the Green Residence parking differently. Additionally, it would be appropriate to eliminate paid parking lots that do not make sense to exist, such as those on Via Padre Annibale di Francia, Tassinara, or along the Vò road.
