In Lonato, there has been a concerning increase in thefts from farms, particularly affecting the area around the Pozze Park and the San Martino neighborhood. Reports include both attempted and successful thefts across various streets, including Del Santuario and Liguria, where thieves have stolen gardening tools and technological devices used in stables. Despite intensified nighttime patrols by the Carabinieri, the vastness of the agricultural territory makes effective monitoring challenging.
Roberto Vanaria, the city councilor responsible for security, has pointed out the inadequacy of personnel to prevent these thefts and has called for increased resources for the local police. In response to this critical situation, the municipality has planned the installation of new surveillance cameras in sensitive areas such as schools and sports facilities. This project, funded by both state and municipal resources, aims to enhance public safety and combat crime through more effective monitoring of vulnerable areas.
