A tragic collapse has struck the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, resulting in the deaths of 225 people, including José Manuel Montilla, a Brescia native residing in Padenghe sul Garda. Montilla was on vacation with his wife, Lucy Amantina Castillo, who also works at the Splendido Bay Luxury Resort, when the roof of the venue collapsed. While she sustained injuries and was hospitalized, there was nothing that could be done for José. His funeral will be held tomorrow in the Dominican capital. The couple had a five-year-old son and two other children from previous relationships.
The Jet Set, known as a hotspot for live music and the Dominican nightlife, was crowded at the time of the disaster, with estimates suggesting around 600 people were present. Rescue teams continue to work through the rubble in hopes of finding survivors. Among the victims is another Italian from Catania and a woman with dual citizenship. Videos on social media depict the widespread panic as the ceiling fell, turning a festive evening into an unexpected tragedy.
