A boat trip on Lake Garda has turned into a new controversial chapter for Austrian entrepreneur René Benko, who is already embroiled in a major investigation concerning alleged organized crime related to public contracts in Trentino Alto Adige. According to the tabloid Kronen Zeitung, Benko was caught at the helm of his motorboat, raising concerns among creditors and experts involved in his insolvency proceedings. Bankruptcy trustee Andreas Grabenweger emphasized that “it should have been clear” that the vessel could not be used during the process, interpreting this behavior as a sign of Benko’s reluctance to cooperate.
Grabenweger also clarified that the use of the motorboat did not affect its value, which was subsequently sold for 95,000 euros according to the appraiser’s evaluations. Benko’s financial situation appears increasingly critical, with acknowledged debts totaling 47 million euros and creditor claims amounting to a staggering 2 billion. The entrepreneur’s life continues to provoke controversy and raise questions about his conduct in the context of the current economic crisis.
