The Municipality of Bardolino is taking measures to mitigate the risk of landslides on the Rocca di Garda. Ten crackmeters will be installed along the western wall of the Rocca, providing real-time data on the geological behavior of the slope. In addition, rain gauges will be placed to monitor the effect of rainfall.
Engineer Osvaldo Cargnel, an expert in the field who has previously worked on the Rocca in the municipality of Garda, has been tasked with conducting a thorough study. Through a computerized system connected to a remote server and an alert procedure, the crackmeters will collect real-time data and identify any critical situations. The rain gauges, equipped with wireless transmitters and integrated internal thermometers, will be useful in assessing the impact of rainfall on landslide phenomena. The wireless technological equipment and its installation will cost 39,000 euros.
According to Engineer Carniel, these instruments represent the first step in monitoring the Rocca and complement existing measures to mitigate the risk of landslides. The data collected from the crackmeters will provide insights into the behavior of the Rocca and guide any necessary mitigation interventions.
Katia Lonardi, Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Ecology, commented that Engineer Cargnel was chosen for his in-depth knowledge of the Rocca and his extensive experience in the field. The installation of the instruments and the reports that will be produced will help constantly monitor the Rocca and promptly intervene in case of safety risks.
