A new regulation has been approved by the Lombardy Region to address the growing issue of violence and aggression against medical staff, aiming to ensure greater safety for healthcare personnel. The resolution, proposed by Welfare Councillor Guido Bertolaso and Security Councillor Romano La Russa, is based on a multidisciplinary approach that involves various stakeholders in the sector to define preventive strategies and risk management measures. Among the planned initiatives are staff training, the installation of surveillance systems, and psychological and legal support for operators who are victims of violence.
The document also establishes constant monitoring of incidents through reporting systems, as well as the adoption of safety devices such as panic buttons. Each healthcare facility will be required to develop a ‘Plan for the Prevention of Violence Against Healthcare Workers’ (PREVIOS), integrated into the Risk Assessment Document (DVR). Furthermore, the Lombardy Region will promote awareness campaigns to sensitize citizens against violence, advocating for a zero-tolerance policy in this area.
