The project for the Depuratore in Lonato has sparked significant local debate, but now the extraordinary commissioner Andrea Polichetti has clarified the reasons behind the choice of this site for the new Garda wastewater treatment plant, which was preferred over the original proposal for a dual facility in Montichiari and Gavardo. During the steering committee meeting held on December 11 at the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the strategic reasons for this decision were outlined, including the capacity of the Chiese River to handle discharges without compromising the Lonato environment, the opportunity to reuse abandoned areas, and the anticipated cost savings.
Furthermore, Polichetti emphasized the urgency of decommissioning the outdated underwater pipeline from the 1980s to ensure a safer and more efficient system. The plant’s location in an area away from populated centers also promises the adoption of advanced technologies to minimize odors and noise. While solutions are being considered to mitigate inconveniences during construction, the municipality will benefit from environmental redevelopment with new opportunities related to the territory.
