The debate over the Lonato wastewater treatment plant continues to ignite the local community, especially following the decision to locate it in Esenta rather than in Gavardo and Montichiari. Yesterday, Mayor Tardani expressed concerns regarding the need for adequate compensations, highlighting the community’s opposition to the Chiese discharge. Various political figures, including regional councilor Paola Pollini (M5S), have denounced a “worrying stagnation” on the part of the Lombardy Region, emphasizing that the needs of the citizens have once again been overlooked.
Criticism has also come from the mayors of Montichiari and Gavardo, Marco Togni and Davide Comaglio, who reiterated their opposition to any discharge into the Chiese River to protect the water quality. Raffaella Giubellini from the Presidio 9 Agosto has called for a renovation of the existing plant instead of a new location, while the PD Circle of Lonato has warned against the risk that the current proposal merely shifts the problem elsewhere. Mayor Tardani has accepted the new location for the treatment plant but insisted on the necessity of compensations for Lonato from the rest of the Alto Garda area.
