An important turning point for the Garda wastewater treatment plant has been announced, with the approval of a single facility in Lonato, which will replace the previous projects for the treatment plants in Gavardo and Montichiari. During the recent ministerial coordination meeting, it was highlighted that this solution offers significant advantages in terms of investment and management costs, as well as ensuring greater efficiency of the facility. The Deputy Minister of the Environment, Vannia Gava, emphasized the urgency of completing the necessary works by 2030, while decommissioning outdated underwater pipelines.
The meeting was also attended by Senator Mariastella Gelmini and representatives from the Lombardy and Veneto regions, who discussed the current status of the project works. A funding of 100 million euros is already planned for the construction of the new facility, which is considered essential for preserving Lake Garda, which accounts for 40% of Italy’s freshwater reserves. Gelmini reiterated the importance of adhering to environmental and economic criteria in the design process and urged for an acceleration in the bureaucratic procedures to initiate the necessary works as soon as possible.
