Discussions regarding the construction of the new hospital in Desenzano continue to provoke strong reactions, particularly from the Five Star Movement (M5S). Recent statements made by the Regional Welfare Councillor of Lombardy, Guido Bertolaso, in response to the inquiry presented by councillors Pollini (M5S) and Rosati (SI), have reignited the debate surrounding this important project.
Concerns Raised by Councillors
The inquiry highlighted numerous questions regarding the feasibility study of the hospital, pointing out various perceived gaps and issues within the initiative. Andrea Spiller, a municipal councillor from M5S, expressed dissatisfaction with the responses received, describing them as insufficient and raising further questions. Among the contested points is the decision not to consider utilizing existing or adjacent spaces to the current structure for the construction of the new hospital. Spiller emphasizes that there are available areas such as parking lots and unused spaces that could be utilized without compromising green land within the Local Park of Intermunicipal Interest (PLIS).
Reflections on Proposed Alternatives
Bertolaso justified the choice not to opt for these alternative solutions by stating that they would lead to a fragmentation of the structure. However, Spiller contests this assertion, highlighting that the area currently occupied by parking is significantly larger than the space planned for the new hospital.
Another controversial point concerns the costs associated with creating new underground parking should the existing spaces be utilized. According to the M5S councillor, the project also includes the purchase of a 12,500 square meter area not owned by ASST to expand parking, an additional cost that needs to be considered.
Structural Aspects and Future Uses of the Old Facility
Spiller also requested clarification on the future use of the current hospital once the new structure is completed. The response received from Bertolaso was vague and left many future possibilities open for the disused building, including potential real estate speculation.
Another issue raised concerns the reduction in the number of beds planned in the new project: it is estimated that the number will decrease to 305 units compared to the 331 currently accredited at the existing hospital.
Possible Future Developments
Despite the criticisms expressed by M5S, a positive aspect emerges from the official communication: the possibility of further exploring other project hypotheses if deemed appropriate is mentioned. This could open the door to new evaluations regarding the feasibility study.
