The Merla Dive, one of the most anticipated winter events, attracted 121 brave souls to Pieve di Ledro on Sunday, January 26, despite adverse weather conditions. The water temperature was recorded at 7 degrees, which was higher than in previous editions, allowing a diverse group of divers from various Italian regions to participate. Among the participants, the youngest were 8-year-old Giorgia Degara and 10-year-old Filippo da Por, while the oldest included 75-year-old Giovanni Amistadi and 70-year-old Carla Caldonazzi.
The event, which celebrates a tradition that began in 2009, also saw groups traveling from as far away as Florence and Chieti. The Merla Dive represents a jovial occasion that takes place during what are considered the coldest days of the year, reinforcing the connection between fun and local folklore. The event continues to grow in popularity and participation, showcasing the community’s affection for this winter tradition.
