The Monte Pizzocolo Choir celebrated its 60 years of activity with a special performance in St. Peter’s Square during Pope Francis’s audience last Wednesday. The singers from Toscolano Maderno performed Charpentier’s “Te Deum” and De Marzi’s “Ave Maria,” receiving warm applause from the audience present. Founded in 1964, the association has a long history of participating in significant events within the local community and gained notoriety thanks to a television appearance in the 1960s.
Currently chaired by Luciano Tonolini and directed by Aurelio Bontempi, the choir consists of 25 members, including one of the founding members, Mario Gastaldi. The repertoire includes around ninety songs that range from folk traditions to religious and mountain music, thus continuing to keep the musical culture of the region alive.
