A gas cylinder explosion occurred on the evening of Thursday, February 20 in an apartment in Montichiari, resulting in serious injuries to a 39-year-old man. The incident took place around 8 PM in a building located between Via Mantova and Via Cavalotti, where the man had gone to assist his neighbors during the emergency. Following the explosion, which was felt throughout the area, the injured man was urgently transported to the Intensive Care Unit of the Civile Hospital of Brescia, suffering burns over approximately 30% of his body, though his condition is stable.
Additionally, a Ghanaian woman living in the apartment and her three minor children sustained only minor burns and were also taken to the hospital for checks. Firefighters, ambulances, Carabinieri, and Local Police responded to the scene to manage the situation. Mayor Marco Togni stated that the building will remain uninhabitable until further structural assessments are completed and raised questions about the use of gas cylinders in a building with a recently renovated centralized heating system.
